'St. Augustine Record' Building Sold For $7.5M

Nov 11, 2020

The building that houses The St. Augustine Record daily newspaper has been sold to an undisclosed private investor for $7.535 million, the newspaper reported.

The Record has seen a host of changes over the past several years. The Morris family of Augusta, Ga., sold the paper to GateHouse Media in 2017.  That deal also included the sale of The Florida Times-Union to GateHouse. Jacksonville's Times-Union is a WJCT News partner.

GateHouse then bought Gannett in 2019, taking on the Gannett name as the two media companies merged.

The Record is located in a 34,4000-square-foot office/warehouse at 1 News Place on the outskirts of St. Augustine near the intersection of state roads 207 and 312.

The building includes several other tenants, including a distribution center for the U.S. Postal Service, according to the Record.

The Record did not disclose whether it intends to remain a long-term tenant at the building, but the Times-Union did move from Jacksonville's Riverside to Downtown following its sale to GateHouse.

The Times-Union relocated from its signature tower and production facility at 1 Riverside Avenue to the second floor of the Wells Fargo Center at 1 Independent Drive.

The Morris family still owns the unoccupied 1 Riverside Avenue property and has been entertaining redevelopment ideas for the property.
