St. Augustine's Blessing Of The Fleet Is Sunday

BILL BORTZFIELD / WJCT NEWS
St. Augustine is pictured during Nights of Lights.

The Blessing of the Fleet will briefly affect traffic in St. Augustine on Sunday, March 28.Road traffic around the Plaza de la Constitución will be interrupted for about 20 minutes to accommodate the annual procession.

The procession starts at noon and is from the Cathedral Basilica of St. Augustine to the Municipal Marina, where the blessing takes place.

Additionally, the Bridge of Lions will remain closed to all boats for about three hours.

The historical ceremony dates to the city’s earliest days of Spanish colonial occupation and takes place each year on Palm Sunday. All vessels — commercial and pleasure —receive a blessing from the Bishop of the Diocese of St. Augustine.
