Students will be dismissed 50 minutes earlier on Wednesdays beginning October 14 in the St. Johns County School District.
Superintendent of Schools Tim Forson announced Monday the early dismissal is to give teachers extra time to work on developing instruction plans.
Middle schools will release at noon, elementary and K-8 academies will release at 12:55 p.m., and high schools will release at 2 p.m.
The earlier dismissal time on Wednesdays will also be used to allow cleaning crews to sanitize high-traffic areas like hallways and libraries.
Forson said even with the earlier dismissal time the district would continue to exceed the required number of instructional minutes set by the state.
