Rebuild Florida is a state program that helps people whose homes were severely damaged in Hurricane Irma. The program is also aimed at removing some homes in harm's way .
The state has set aside $10 million to help people in Monroe County whose homes are in areas at high risk from flooding.
The money isn't to repair or replace homes. It's for voluntary buyouts.
The county will demolish the houses. The land will be used for conservation, parks or stormwater management.
The county says it will buy homes and land for what they were worth before Hurricane Irma crossed the Keys in September 2017.
Homes in low- and moderate-income areas will have priority.
A public meeting about the voluntary buyout program is scheduled for 10 a.m. Monday, July 22, at the Marathon Government Center, 2798 Overseas Highway.
