Family physicians are often the first line of health care providers that patients turn to when they present with COVID-19 symptoms.
And even though Florida is opening back up for business, this vital group of health care providers wants to help reiterate the important message of staying safe, staying home and wearing a mask when you go out.
Dr. Christie Alexander is president of theFlorida Academy of Family Physicians and a Professor in the Department of Family Medicine and Rural Health at Florida State University’s College of Medicine. She joined us with more.

Jacksonville’s Human Rights Ordinance
On Friday, an Appeals Court struck down Jacksonville’s Human Rights Ordinance (HRO), because even though it was updated three years ago, they said the legislation was apparently not written properly.
The updated HRO was passed into law back in 2017, after a long battle. The updated ordinance added LGBTQ residents as protected from discrimination based on sexual orientation or gender identity.
Jacksonville attorney Jimmy Midyettewas the legislative director of the Jacksonville Coalition for Equality at that time and helped write the ordinance, and is now running for Duval County Clerk of Courts. He shared his thoughts with us, as did Jon Harris Maurer, Public Policy Director ofEquality Florida.
