The Stoneman Douglas High School Baseball team will play their first tournament of the season at the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville on Friday, March 9.
Their game against Orlando's TNXL Baseball Academy is scheduled for 5 p.m., and tickets cost $10. The host of the tournament, Trinity Christian Academy, is encouraging the city of Jacksonville to attend the game and "sell out for Stoneman."
All proceeds from Friday's game will be donated to the school’s victims' relief fund. It has been less than a month since the Feb. 14 mass shooting that left 17 students and teachers at the school dead.
Event organizer Crystal Lawrence said, “We have the opportunity to host this baseball team and 40 parents from their school, and we as a community want to show them all the love and support that we can.”
Trinity Christian is also accepting donations and selling T-shirts to benefit the victims.
“We want them to feel like they’re playing a home game here in Jacksonville,” Lawrence said. Trinity Christian Academy is also encouraging attendees to dress in maroon and silver, the school colors for the Eagles.
