The City of Tallahassee is getting nearly $9,000 from the AARP. The grant will go toward a park in the Greater Bond Community--a traditionally African American neighborhood on the Southside of Tallahassee.

The linear park will connect the St. Marks Historic Railroad State Trail and two other neighborhood green spaces. Commissioner Curtis Richardson says the funds from AARP will help the city enhance the park-- allowing them to build, outdoor swings, water fountains, and amenities for people with disabilities and senior citizens.

The park is part of a larger project called the Greater Neighborhood First Plan. It was adopted by the Community Redevelopment Agency in December of 2018. Construction for the park is set to begin in August.
