TEDxJacksonville To Highlight Solutions, Best Practices For Challenges Facing City Leadership

Downtown Vision, Inc.

With the Jacksonville city elections less than two weeks away, the issues affecting our community are on the forefront of many residents’ minds.

TEDxJacksonville is hosting a conference this weekend at Hemming Park showing TED talks that highlight innovations and best practices to overcoming challenges like the ones faced in Jacksonville. At least one city councilwoman and five city council candidates will be in attendance.

The theme of this weekend’s event is “Excellence in Governance.” TEDxJacksonville’s Co-organizer and Executive Producer, Sabeen Perwaiz, says the talks featured in the event on Saturday will be relevant to the upcoming elections.

”We thought that this particular salon and the TED talks we’re going to be showing are especially relevant because of our upcoming mayor and city council elections," Perwaiz said.

She said, "It’s clear our city wants to improve and be progressive and change starts with ideas that open dialogue so that’s what we’re all about.”

The TEDxJacksonville Salon will be held at Hemming Park this Saturday, May 9, at 5:30 p.m. Tickets are $15 online.

After the talks, there will be a forum for conversation with local experts on how citizens contribute to building a culture of excellence in government.
