One of the top creators at last year's inaugural One Spark Festival is relaunching with new branding. The Kona School, a blended learning environment based on eight elements scientifically proven to maximize student potential and increase learning, will now be known MEROS Academy.

School co-founder and executive director James Smith joined Melissa Ross with details on the changes.

According to Smith, the curriculum and vision of the school has not changed, only the branding. Funding from One Spark 2013 helped Smith and his team research and refine the brand and launch strategy.

Utilizing focus groups, input from longtime stakeholders and consultation from leading marketers in the community, the new name, logo and tagline were developed.

MEROS, pronounced mear’-ohs, is a Greek word meaning ‘a part of the whole’ and is a more accurate reflection of the system and cycle of learning at the curriculum’s core, according to Smith.

Additionally, a new tagline, "Balanced Learning, Unleashed Potential," was developed which echoes the essence of the school’s mission and vision.

MEROS Academy will participate as a Venue at One Spark 2014 and is aggressively pursuing funding in support of their planned opening for the 2015 school year.
