Tallahassee police are getting calls and emails from around the world after a cellphone video taken at the Stadium Centre Apartments on Gaines Street went viral.

A man whose name hasn’t been released is seen confronting a group of FAMU students trying to get into the building last weekend.

The video contains graphic language.

TPD Officer Damon Miller says the man who pulled the gun is being investigated by the violent crimes unit for aggravated assault.

“We’re just asking that everyone be patient with us and not try to, you know, put this investigation up against something else and saying, ok well, they only took this long to do it," Miller says. "Anything that we do is not routine at all. It takes time, and we just make sure that we go through the proper steps and do a thorough investigation.”

It’s not known whether the man had a concealed weapon permit. As for whether it’s legal to pull out a gun, Miller says it depends on the situation. For example, Florida's controversial Stand Your Ground law could apply.

The apartment complex issued a statement saying the man is not a resident there.

After a social media outcry, the man has been fired from his job as general manager of one of Tallahassee's Baymont by Wyndham hotels.
