Tuesday we looked at how some corporations are using a variety of methods to create doubt about the facts behind science and how that can influence health and safety.

David Michaels is a former official with OSHA and the Energy Department. He has a new book showing how players across industries - everyone from the NFL, to fossil fuel companies, to the makers of opioids - can create doubt about the truth. Michaels joined us with a look at his book, The Triumph of Doubt.

Wild Florida

Princess Place Preserve

From hiking the great outdoors to some right whale sightings going on right now, Master Naturalist Lisa Vick Grubba joined us to take us outside into Wild Florida. It’s still a beautiful time of year for hiking and Lisa had a new place to tell us about. Named for Russian prince and princess, “Princess Place.”

Also mentioned during the show was Jacksonville-born  “Florida Cracker” conservationist, Whitey Markle, who died in November.

Here's his video and song about the Ocklawaha River, which he performed with the Swamprooters:

The Florida House

It’s called Florida’s embassy. The Florida House on Capitol Hill is in the nation’s capital, directly behind the Supreme Court. This weekend the Cummer Museum is celebrating the Florida House. Mike Hightower and Martha Baker joined us in Studio 5 with a preview.

Players By the Sea

Players By the Sea is partnering with a new nonprofit. The Jacksonville New Music Society was created by local jazz musicians to educate the community by bringing more new and creative music to Jacksonville.

Alexander Hernandez of the Jacksonville New Music Society, Jereme Raickett with Players by the Sea, singer and pianist Brittany Santos and Aaron Lehrian were here in Studio 5 for a live performance. The groups are kicking off the partnership with a launch party concert that features jazz saxophonist Adam Larson on February 28.
