Help for former prisoners; Thunderbird Motor Hotel and Dinner Theatre; What's Good Wednesday

NPR

Florida is known to have the third-largest incarcerated population in the country. To address the needs of the thousands of people who return home from Florida jails and prisons each month, Operation New Hope continues to expand services to new sites in the pursuit of a statewide reintegration network.

Policymakers on both sides of the aisle feel that reintegrating individuals into their communities is the humanitarian thing to do, as well as an effective strategy to reduce crime and save money.

Reggie Fullwood, president and CEO of Operation New Hope, joined us with an update.

Thunderbird Motor Hotel and Dinner Theatre

The recent demolition of Arlington's Thunderbird Motor Hotel and Dinner Theatre has many Jaxsons thinking back on the neighborhood's past — and wondering about its future.

We got a closer look from Karen Brune Mathis, editor of the Jacksonville Business Journal; local author and historian Tim Gilmore; and incoming District 1 City Councilman Ken Amaro.

What’s Good Wednesday

We spoke with Shana David-Massett, co-owner of Sun-Ray Cinema in Five Points, which was named the fifth-highest grossing moving theater in the whole state of Florida during the opening weekend of Wes Anderson’s latest flick, "Asteroid City."
