Our Friday media roundtable highlighted the top stories of the week in Northeast Florida. Joining us on air were Anne Schindler of First Coast News, writer Nikesha Williams and Dan Scanlan of WJCT News.
Among the stories:
- New city budget: Mayor Donna Deegan is scheduled to present her first budget Monday. We discussed what we can expect the budget to include when it finally goes public.
- New City Hall employees: New City Hall employees were in the news this week, after coverage last week about Garret Dennis' campaign finances. This week, controversy is centered around Al Ferraro and his campaign signs. We discussed why we are hearing about all this now.
- Closed swimming pools: Temperatures continue to be at an all-time high, but many of Jacksonville's public swimming pools remain closed. Officials from the mayor’s office say staff is working to open five pools next week and also provide additional solutions for the community.
- Affordable housing: Finding affordable housing in Jacksonville appears to be increasingly difficult. Housing leaders met this week to try to answer exactly why that is — and how to address it.
