You might have seen a sticker that says “Make Jax Weird” on a cash register at a café or maybe on a car driving by.

The slogan acknowledges Jacksonville isn’t quite Austin or Portland – places that have proudly proclaimed their oddness for over a decade.

More than five years in, the creator of “Make Jax Weird” is still trying to do just that — now by holding in-person meetups.

On Tuesday night, Jacksonville residents drank to history at an event focusing on the Bold City’s bygone brews.

The sudsy shindig was one in a series of celebrations meant to foster a better understanding of the city’s history among the younger generation.


Great American Beer Festival

Jacksonville finally has a Great American Beer Fest winner.

Hundreds of beers in 92 different styles competed at the festival, which awarded gold, silver and bronze medals.

San Marco-based Aardwolf's Belgian Style Blonde Ale won a bronze medal in its style, Belgian-Style Blonde Ale or Pale Ale.

The gold medal went to a beer from Missouri and the silver medal to a beer from New York.

The other Florida beer to win came from Tampa-based Brew Bus Brewing. It won a silver medal in the Fruit Wheat Beer category for its "You're my Boy, Blue!".
