Jacksonville City Council member Jim love requested withdrawal of Ordinance 2019-238, his substitute short term rental bill, in response to constituents’ concerns.

Florida took a step Tuesday in imposing economic sanctions on the popular home-sharing platform Airbnb because of a company decision against listing properties in the West Bank, an area that is a major flashpoint in Israeli-Palestinian relations.

It was standing room only in a City Council conference room Thursday morning, the topic on the table: short-term vacation rental properties.

Like the protracted legal and legislative battle over supervising ride-hailing smartphone apps like Uber and Lyft, the Jacksonville City Council is again finding itself in the middle of a regulatory Catch-22 that is costing it tax revenue.
