Attorneys are considering a settlement in the case of a Duval County Public Schools teacher who is suing the district over alleged retaliation centering on a Black Lives Matter flag.

A Robert E. Lee High School teacher who says she was removed from her classroom for flying a Black Lives Matter flag has filed a whistleblower complaint against the Duval County Public Schools district.

Robert E. Lee High School teacher Amy Donofrio — removed from her classroom in March after she refused to take down a Black Lives Matter flag from outside her classroom — said she believed she’d been ultimately fired based on a speech last week by state Education Commissioner Richard Corcoran. 

State Education Commissioner Richard Corcoran said in a recent address that a Duval County Public Schools teacher has been fired after displaying Black Lives Matter flags.

A teacher in the Duval County Public School system has filed a lawsuit against the district over free speech issues and allegations of retaliation.
