A new series of Sunday afternoon concerts by the Florida Chamber Music Project starts this weekend at Ponte Vedra Concert Hall.

The series will feature an hour of music and information on a new composer each Sunday at 3 p.m. The musicians will interact with the audience as part of an effort to bring classical music to St. Johns County.

Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra

The All-Star Orchestra is an ensemble of musicians made up of the best players from major orchestras across the United States, including two from Jacksonville.

On November 14, the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP) will present the orchestra with it's award for broadcasting excellence in New York.

Les Rotteges is a flutist with the Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra and the Eastern Music Festival and one of four players in the flute section of the All-Star Orchestra. His JSYM colleague Kevin Reid, who plays French Horn, is also in the group.

The Catalyst Quartet are part of the Latino-African American chamber orchestra Sphinx Virtuosi, performing Friday night at St. Pauls By The Sea Episcopal Church through the Jacksonville Beaches Fine Arts Series.

The 18 piece conductorless ensemble was founded to encourage minority classical music performers to have a career in the field, and they have been described by the San Francisco Classical Voice as,  "highly talented, confident and stylish," and, "a response to the oft-maligned image of classical music as stodgy, old, elitist, and white."
