Duval County Democratic Party Chair Daniel Henry confirmed Monday that a complaint has been filed against him by fellow Democrat, Jacksonville City Councilman Garrett Dennis.

Florida Senate Democrats last week selected Jacksonville’s Audrey Gibson as their leader for the next two legislative sessions. The incoming Democratic leader said she hopes to be a bridge builder.

Florida’s new house speaker and senate president are Republicans, as are the majority of state lawmakers and the governor-elect.

New Minority Leader Gibson said there is room for bipartisanship in the Senate.

With Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump scheduled to speak in downtown Jacksonville Wednesday, supporters of Democrat Hillary Clinton took to the streets of Five Points to denounce her rival Wednesday morning.

Embattled Jacksonville Public Defender Matthew Shirk is being asked to resign by a local party head, following published reports in which he admitted to drinking in his city office and violating other policies.

Duval County Democratic Party Chairman Neil Henrichsen is calling for Shirk's "immediate resignation," calling the prosecutor "scandal-ridden."

"It is clear that he must resign his public position immediately to restore good government and public trust to the Public Defender’s Office,” Henrichsen said in a statement.
