The Jacksonville City Council has approved $63 million in improvements at EverBank Field.

A $63 million upgrade to EverBank Field looks to be on it's way to the end zone after Jacksonville City Council members heard a pitch Tuesday from Jaguars owner Shad Khan.

Khan wants to pay $20 million for the upgrades, with the city covering the remaining $43 million.

Jaguars president Mark Lamping told the council the improvements could lead to the hosting of other events at the stadium, including the College Football Championship Game, and that they are designed to meet the changing needs of NFL fans.

The chair of a Jacksonville City Council subcommittee key to setting the annual budget said legislators are looking to add projects to the city’s Capital Improvement Program.

The CIP covers maintenance, like funding for road repairs and resurfacing, major purchases like new fire engines, and replacing park equipment. 

Council Member Richard Clark is chair of the City Council Finance Committee CIP Subcommittee, which is reviewing the proposed CIP budget.

Changes are coming to EverBank Field - changes that will cost in the neighborhood of $63 million.

It was standing room only in the Jacksonville Jaguars’ locker room at EverBank Field Wednesday afternoon as Jaguars President Mark Lamping explained what’s in store for the stadium.

“These enhancements include major upgrades in our video capabilities, including two new end-zone scoreboards that will be the first of their kind in the world," he said. "That’s right—the biggest and best scoreboards in the world will be at EverBank Field here in Jacksonville Florida.”

Thousands of Jacksonville Jaguars fans packed into EverBank Field Thursday night for the 19th annual Bud Light Draft Day Party.

Fans were able to meet and get autographs from former and current Jaguars players,  purchase merchandise featuring the new logo and uniforms and stalk out potential season ticket locations.

Fans  cheered wildly when the selection of Texas A&M offensive tackle Luke Joeckel was announced as the Jaguars first round pick.
