Wednesday on First Coast Connect we spoke with Democratic 4th District Congressional candidate Monica DePaul who is looking to challenge incumbent Republican Congressman John Rutherford (01:18).

Dave Bruderly said when he learned as a Democrat he wouldn’t be allowed to vote in the closed 4th Congressional District Republican primary, he decided he’d run for the office.

Since then he’s been running an uphill campaign in the heavily GOP leaning district. Bruderly is a veteran and professional engineer.

Bruderly said on First Coast Connect Thursday his 25 years as a small business owner gives him a perspective Republican John Rutherford does not have.

Fifth Congressional District candidate Democrat Dave Bruderly was our guest Thursday on First Coast Connect. He spoke with host Melissa Ross about why he decided to run for Congress and the issues he’s focusing on.

In the first of our new segment “Rising Stars,” we spoke with William Hoang, 27, of TTV Architects, he is the youngest certified architect in Jacksonville. 


District 4 Republican congressional candidate John Rutherford said one of the skills he learned during his 12 years as Jacksonville sheriff was how to work with others of different beliefs to get things accomplished.

St. Johns County Commissioner and congressional candidate Bill McClure said Congress is broken and doesn’t need more career politicians to solve its problems.

Appearing Monday on First Coast Connect, McClure said he would  emphasize protecting the military instillations on the First Coast.

He brushed aside controversy over his involvement in a business called Medi MD, which Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi said is the subject of an ongoing criminal investigation.

McClure denied allegations Medi MD is a “pill mill.”

St. Johns County Commissioner and Florida 4th District Congressional candidate Bill McClure appeared Monday with Melissa Ross on First Coast Connect ahead of next week’s primary election.  

We also spoke with transgender Jacksonville resident Denise Iondoli who is the subject of the latest video produced by local advocacy group “We Are Straight Allies.”

Republican Hans Tanzler III said he is the only candidate running to replace retiring Congressman Ander Crenshaw with the experience and conservative credentials to do the job.

Tanzler appeared on First Coast Connect Thursday morning and talked about how his position as a “conservative outsider” can help bring change in Washington.

Tanzler admits he has run the most negative ads in the campaign directed mainly at frontrunner former Sheriff John Rutherford.

Former Jacksonville Sheriff John Rutherford, a candidate in Florida's District 4 congressional race, appeared on First Coast Connect on Tuesday. 

Also on the program, Steve Smith, the executive director of the Southern Alliance for Clean Energy, talked about solar energy Amendment 4, which is on the Aug. 30 ballot. We also heard about a prestigious honor awarded to University of Florida Health Jacksonville.
