The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office handed out its annual Awards Thursday. JSO Citizen of the Year Honors went to MAD DADS Jacksonville Chapter President Donald Foy.

Donald Foy started MAD DADS in Jacksonville in 2003. That’s the same year John Rutherford became Sheriff, as Rutherford recalls.

Police are searching for the man who robbed a bank in Springfield this morning. The suspect is believed to have fled north on Main Street in a white pickup truck with tinted windows.

An Eastside man has been charged with the Christmas Day murder of his girlfriend.

The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office arrested 24-year-old Breon Leondre Fussell in the death of his girlfriend Shannon Woods, 22.

Fussell was arrested around 8 p.m. Thursday, shortly after police found Woods shot dead in his backyard in the 1000 block of East 12th Street.

The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office has arrested the man shot in the leg by an officer during a burglary early Wednesday morning.

Twenty-seven-year old Michael Kevin Hollis is charged with burglary, weapons possession and resisting arrest without violence after breaking into Gate Liquors off Lem Turner Road.

JSO Investigations Director Tom Hackney says responding Officer Steve Coleman shot Hollis as he was attempting to take two rifles from the business.

Before shooting, Coleman ordered Hollis to get on the ground repeatedly, Hackney says.

  UPDATE: 5:13 p.m. News4Jax reports the protesters are marching on the Hart Bridge and are blocking westbound lanes. 

A handful of people who blocked Interstate 95 in Jacksonville Monday morning say they’re planning a second demonstration this evening but would not provide the location. The group’s morning-rush-hour protest near Emerson Street delayed commuters by up to an hour.  

The activists call themselves the Kemetic Empire. Their leader, Diallo-Sekou Seabrooks, says the group will keep blocking traffic until law enforcement policies change.

After the recent grand jury decision that the police officers involved in the chokehold death of Eric Gardner would not be indicted, News4Jax investigated into whether or not Jacksonville Sheriff's Office, Florida Highway Patrol and police forces in the other Northeast Florida counties are permitted to use chokeholds in the course of their duties.
