Ahead of Tuesday’s Jacksonville City Council meeting, Councilman Garrett Dennis is filing five emergency bills to rename parks throughout the city to honor veterans.

Jacksonville At-Large Group 4 City Councilman Matt Carlucci is calling for the city’s Chief Administrative Officer to step down.

In an email to local journalists, Carlucci described Brian Hughes as a “troublesome liability to the mayor’s office” and an impediment to the city’s future.

If you watched the NFL Draft, you may have noticed the bustling street in Nashville behind the sports anchors.

As The Jaxson’s Bill Delaney says, the story of Nashville’s lower Broadway parallels that of downtown Jacksonville’s Laura Street.

But as he tells News Director Jessica Palombo, Laura Street’s momentum could be in jeopardy, depending on the city’s plan to replace The Jacksonville Landing.

Mayor Lenny Curry wants to see The Jacksonville Landing redeveloped. But amidst his wrangling with the shopping center’s owner, artists at The Landing’s Art Center Cooperative want the city to see some tenants are still trying to make the location work.

The Jacksonville Landing is going to brighten up its interior walls through a local-artist mural project.

Its mostly blank walls currently feature simple green tropical plants and light blue pelican figures. Local artist Nicole Holderbaum wants to change that and has partnered with the Landing. She will accept artist submissions for seven murals to revamp the interior.
