Eight female activists from Jacksonville are calling on state and federal officials to keep the Affordable Care Act intact. That’s as Republicans in Washington are talking about repealing and replacing the health care law.

Candidates for several Northeast Florida offices gathered in the basement of a downtown Jacksonville church Thursday to talk about addressing homelessness.

For just over an hour, five Democrats and one Republican traded ideas and answered questions from members of the group Changing Homelessness.

Political newcomer LaShonda “L-J” Holloway is vying to represent Florida’s 5th Congressional district. 

The Jacksonville Democrat announced she’s challenging fellow Democrat, Congresswoman Corrine Brown.

Holloway had to compete with none other than Brown herself for attention at Hemming Park Monday.
