The United States' victory in Europe is the focus of events in Washington, D.C. on Sept. 25. And last week, a ceremony in Hawaii paid tribute to victory in the Pacific.

With hurricane season beginning June 1, Naval Station Mayport is planning for its annual training exercise on how to respond to natural disasters and how to evacuate the base if a storm heads to Northeast Florida. 

Called HURREX 20, the training will run from May 11 to May 15, and involve a simulated storm system that will develop and intensify to hurricane strength.

The Department of Veterans Affairs is looking at sites in Jacksonville to construct and lease a new outpatient clinic.

A federal jury in Jacksonville on Friday convicted the former commander of the U.S. Navy base at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba of interfering with an investigation into the 2015 death of a civilian contractor.

MacDill Air Force Base in Tampa was placed on lockdown early Friday morning amid concerns of an armed suspect on or near the base. Authorities eventually learned there was no threat, but the incident had some residents fearing the worst.
