Nikki Fried was sworn in last week as state agriculture commissioner, becoming the first woman elected to run the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services. She also is the only Democrat holding statewide office and the first Democrat on the state Cabinet in eight years.

U.S. Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) hosted a press event Friday to highlight his accomplishments over the past two years, but he spent most of his time fielding questions from reporters about the ongoing government shutdown and border security.

Based on Thursday afternoon unofficial election returns, it's looking like the governor's race is headed toward a recount along with the high profile U.S. Senate and Agriculture Commissioner races.
