The Ribault Lady Trojans basketball team was victorious in the 2016 national championship, and the girls returned to Jacksonville to be greeted with open arms Saturday night.

The team dominated Riverdale (Maryland) Baptist 75-49 in the Dick's Sporting Goods high school basketball championship Saturday morning in Madison Square Garden.

Grant Helps Ribault Aviation Program Take Flight

Some Ribault High School students will be flying planes before they graduate — that’s the idea behind a new aviation academy at the school, supported by a $300,000 grant from JPMorgan Chase.

Duval County School Board members have unanimously approved an airplane pilot-training program. Tuesday night the board okayed spending $120,000 to hire veteran pilot William Charlton as a consultant to help lay the groundwork for an Aviation Career Academy at Ribault High School.

Superintendent Nikolai Vitti says Charlton’s duties will begin with recruiting an instructor that has the “expertise and long-term commitment to the school.” Vitti says the next step for Charlton will be to coordinate with the district and the instructor to develop a curriculum.

  Shakespeare in the Park returns to the First Coast this weekend, with open-air performances in Atlantic Beach. And later this month, high-school students will get the chance to appear alongside the University of North Florida performers.

The director says the comedy “Twelfth Night” resonates with today’s young people.

Friday and Saturday night, the UNF production appears in Atlantic Beach’s Johansen Park. Drama professor and director Pam Monteleone says Shakespeare’s “Twelfth Night” may be 400 years old, but her students have found modern-day relevance in its themes.
