The United Way of Northeast Florida is gearing up to help as many people as possible beat Wednesday’s tax-filing deadline.

Jeff Winkler is the Director of Real Sense, a United Way coalition of financial service providers for low-income residents.

Winkler says last year’s single-location event on April 15 didn’t work as well as expected.

“So we’re trying a new approach and we’re having these seven different tax sites that are going to be open simultaneously,” Winkler said. “Between those seven sites alone, we should be able to serve close to 300 clients in one day.”

Jeff Winkler runs the United Way’s RealSense initiative, which is bringing in more than 20 tax experts to help people file.

Hundreds of community and business leaders gathered at the Hyatt Regency in downtown Jacksonville on Tuesday to kick off the United Way of Northeast Florida's 2013 fundraising campaign.

The theme this year is "All In This Together," and officials hope to raise about half-a-million dollars more than last year's $15 million.

2013 United Way Campaign Chair Arie "Chip" Vance from Enterprise Holdings says they are placing a greater emphasis on donations to the community impact fund which focus on health, education and income.
