The USS New York arrived at its new home at Mayport Naval Station Friday afternoon. About a thousand military personnel and their families will now call Jacksonville home.

Alvin Brown, Rayne Perrywinkle, and Rick Scott are in the headlines today.

Two of the nation's top naval intelligence officers, Vice Adm. Ted Branch and Rear Adm. Bruce Loveless, have had their access to classified material suspended in connection with a bribery scandal involving a Singapore-based contractor.

It could be a while before anyone knows exactly how and why a cargo ship hit the Mathews Bridge Thursday afternoon, closing it to traffic indefinitely.

The U.S. Coast Guard is heading up the investigation into the accident. Petty Officer First Class Lauren Jorgensen says officials are in the very earliest stages of figuring out what happened and who’s to blame.

“The drug and alcohol testing has been completed and the investigators have been interviewing the crew to determine who was directly involved and any witnesses that were there," she said.

WASHINGTON (AP) — The U.S. Navy says one person is injured after a shooting at a Navy building in Washington.

Police and emergency crews gathered Monday morning outside the Naval Sea Systems Command Headquarters building, where the shooting was reported.

USS Stark Remembered

Today marks the 26th anniversary of the attack on the U.S.S Stark in the Arabian Gulf. Every year on this date, Mayport Naval Station holds a memorial service to honor the 37 sailors who were killed aboard the guided missile frigate. 

One by one, the names of those sailors are read, followed by the tolling of a bell. Retired Rear Admiral George Huchting, who spoke to the gathering about the special bond among shipmates, says the memorial service lets people stop and remember those who died in service to their country.

The U.S. Chief of Naval Operations Jonathan Greenert was in Jacksonville today to meet with Navy officials and others at NAS Jax.

He talked about the importance of Northeast Florida and Southeast Georgia to Navy operations.
