Part of Jacksonville's technology ecosystem has been shut down, with 40 workers being laid off.

Adecco is laying off 26 of its corporate employees and shutting down its downtown Ignite lab.

Ignite announced it would be closing at the end of a week in a blog post Tuesday. The blog post stated that Ignite had been informed by executive leadership at Adecco of the impending closure due to “changing demands in the marketplace.”

The lab had been running for three years, and functioned as an "innovation center." One of the successes Ignite pointed to was Wicked Smart, a website that aimed to connect companies with interns for paid internships. That website has since shut down.

Ignite's closure is another blow for the local tech scene. CoLabJax is the most recent, as it has unceremoniously closed its facility at the Jacksonville Landing.
