After recent damage from Hurricane Matthew, a St. Augustine artist is using her talent to help with relief efforts.
Kiara Sanchez, a St. Augustine artist is selling her drawings on paper and on t-shirts to raise money for local recovery efforts after Hurricane Matthew.
“I was watching the news of the town getting just flooded and everything and I just got kind of upset and sad,” she said. “I just took out my iPad and just wanted to draw because … I felt like heartbroken over the town.”
All proceeds from the prints will go to St. Francis House, a local St. Augustine homeless shelter that suffered severe damage from Matthew. Sanchez said the money raised from t-shirt sales will go to Firefighters for Families, a charity in St. Augustine that provides assistance to families in need.
The design she created is a rendering of some of St. Augustine’s most famous landmarks, including the Castillo de San Marcos. The print can be purchased on her website for $20. She also partnered with Yell Yes Screen Printing, a local business in St. Augustine to create T-Shirts which can be purchased for $15, between 9a.m. and noon Oct. 23 at Fire Station 7 in St. Augustine Beach.
Tank tops will also be available. More distribution spots and pick-up spots will be announced as time progresses.
