Jacksonville State Representative Pitches Autonomous Transportation Incentitves

Rep. Jason Fischer
Florida House of Representatives

Rep. Jason Fischer, R-Jacksonville and Sen. Jeff Brandes, R-St. Petersburg, has filed legislation to provide incentives to local governments to advance technology linked to driverless cars.

The identical measures (SB 852 and HB 633) filed Monday would, in part, set aside $18 million next fiscal year to provide up to three awards, each worth up to $6 million, to help prepare for autonomous and electric vehicles.

Each award under the “Florida Smart City Challenge Grant Program” would require at least a 50 percent match from the local government.
