80-year-old FSCJ Professor Killed In Crash On Heckscher Drive

Miriam "Mimi" Folk died Monday in a crash on Heckscher Drive.

The woman who died in a two-vehicle crash Monday afternoon on Heckscher Drive was a lifelong educator who was still teaching at Florida State College at Jacksonville at 80 years old, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The crash, near the entrance to the Sandollar Restaurant just north of the landing of the Mayport Ferry, was reported shortly after 2 p.m. and blocked traffic in both directions of Heckscher Drive for the rest of the afternoon.

According to the Highway Patrol, Miriam Folk was pulling out of the restaurant parking lot when the left side of her Toyota Prius was hit by the front left of a Ford F-250 traveling north on Heckscher Drive. Folk died at the scene, troopers said.
