Well those didn't last long.

The signs pointing I-95 drivers to The Jacksonville Landing that were added to a Downtown service road as part of the Overland Bridge Interstate Reconstruction Project in 2018 are coming down.

The Landing was sold to the city last year, then closed and demolished. The city wants to redevelop the land but nothing firm has been announced.

The green highway signs on the northbound service road from San Marco to Downtown will be repurposed.

"The sign update will actually be overlays," said Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) spokesman Daryl Goss. "The signs that actually have Jacksonville 'Landing' on them, will just no longer say Jacksonville 'Landing.'"

Goss said the signage will be updated to better alert drivers to exits.

"To the south of that service road, we're going to add some language that better identifies the Acosta Expressway and Main Street," he said.

The service road leads to either the I-95 Fuller Warren Bridge or the Acosta or Main Street bridges.

Detours around the work area will begin Thursday, April 17, through Saturday, April 25 from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m.

Motorists using the I-95 northbound service road to the Main Street Bridge and Acosta Bridge will be detoured to Atlantic Boulevard, where they will take a right onto Kings Avenue, then take a left onto Prudential Drive, and then make a right onto Main Street.

Drivers who wish to take the Acosta Bridge will take a left onto Mary Street from Main Street.

The sign updates are part of a larger $126 million project that is scheduled to be finished in early 2021.

The centerpiece of the project will be the Fuller Warren Bridge expansion that will add an additional lane in each direction along with a shared use path on the southbound side of the bridge for pedestrians and bicyclists.
