Former Atlantic Beach Chief of Police Michelle Cook has been elected Clay County sheriff, as write-in candidate Francis Bourrie withdraws from the race, according to the Clay County Supervisor of Elections.
Cook received 37.07% of the vote in Tuesday’s primary, while suspended Sheriff Darryl Daniels got 29.08%, according to unofficial preliminary results.

Daniels faces evidence tampering and false report charges following an Florida Department of Law Enforcement investigation surrounding a relationship with a former employee at the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.

Cook’s experience also includes 26 years with the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.
Matt Walsh from the Florida Department of Law Enforcement was appointed Clay County’s interim sheriff when Daniels was suspended by Gov. Ron DeSantis last week.
