The Jacksonville Jaguars have released Northeast Florida native and former Florida Gators standout quarterback Tim Tebow as a tight end, the Jaguars announced Tuesday.

Tebow had briefly been reunited with former Florida Head Coach Urban Meyer, who is now the Jaguars head coach.

Tebow took to Twitter to thank the Jaguars for the opportunity to try out.

Tebow got his football start at Ponte Vedra's Nease High School. He entered the NFL as a Denver Broncos quarterback. He also briefly played or had tryouts with the New York Jets, New England Patriots and Philadelphia Eagles, according to Pro Football Network.

He also tried his hand at baseball, playing in the Minor League farm system for the New York Mets.
