For the fourth year in a row, two separate citywide breakfasts will take place in Jacksonville to honor the slain civil rights leader the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr.
Both events — one sponsored by the Jacksonville chapter of the NAACP, the other by City Hall — are free and will be conducted virtually Friday. The annual downtown parade honoring King will be Monday, which is a city and federal holiday.
Celebrations also are scheduled Monday in Fernandina Beach, Green Cove Springs and St. Augustine, where King visited in 1964 to lead a nonviolent campaign against segregation and discrimination.
