A couple of childhood friends from the Beaches are just about done renovating a 1946 motor-court motel on Atlantic Boulevard, aiming to appeal to nostalgia while providing modern amenities.
"Most people who walk on the property now say, 'Man, I feel like I'm in the Florida Keys. I feel like I'm on my vacation from when I was a child,'" said Curt DeWitt, co-owner of the Salt Air Inn & Suites. "I say, 'Yeah, that's kind of what we were going for.'"
He and Kyle Stucki, both 36, just spent three years renovating the 76-year-old Salt Air Motel, four blocks from the ocean. They expect to open its 15 rooms on March 1 and already have reservations from wedding parties, family reunions and church events.
