The Liberty County puppy found shot and near death in a school yard on Tuesday, June 11 is on the mend. Now the National Humane Society is offering a $5,000 reward for the arrest and conviction of the person responsible.
The puppy, apparently shot at close range, was barely alive when he was discovered on Tuesday. A volunteer from the Leon County Humane Society brought him first to Northwood Animal Hospital in Tallahassee for emergency care. He was then taken to Buck Lake animal hospital to undergo surgery to amputate the remains of his front leg and repair a badly hurt and infected back leg. The Society’s Lisa Glunt says “Everett,” as they’ve named him, will need a long recovery and won’t be ready for adoption for some time. In the meanwhile, she’s thanking everyone who donated online to defray the cost of his medical care.
