Electric bills likely to rise this winter, JEA says

Rising natural gas prices will force higher JEA electric rates in the winter for the utility's customers, JEA officials said Friday.

The comparatively cheap cost of natural gas over the past decade had helped JEA roll back electric billsand give one-time rebates to customers over that span.

But natural gas prices have been soaring this year, part of a broader trend in higher energy costs that has seen the price of gasoline at the pump reach its highest level in Florida in seven years.
