A group of downtown Jacksonville business and community leaders are kicking off a project to enhance the north bank and south bank riverwalks on the St. Johns River.
The Riverwalk Project will present its initiative during next month’s One Spark festival.
The project will create an app and website that would stream information about health, the environment, arts and entertainment and Jacksonville’s history.
There would also be information markers and kiosks on the riverwalks paired with a smartphone mobile app that would provide guided narrations along the river.
Vanessa Harper is a producer with the P-R firm Brunet-Garcia and is one of the project’s developers. She says the Riverwalk Project will greatly benefit downtown. “It just drives economic development. Once people start to experience downtown they get a connection with it. They realize they can have fun and safe educational experiences they form that connection and come downtown more often, they discover new businesses, they start to spend their money there, it just keeps going.”
The St. Johns Riverkeeper, the Cultural Council, Jacksonville’s Historical Society, the City’s
Art in Public Places project and The Health Planning Council of Northeast Florida are also participating in the project.
One Spark is being held April 17th through the 21st in Downtown Jacksonville. It will allow scientists, technicians, engineers and artists the opportunity to showcase their creations.
During the event, attendees will be able to vote on which projects they like best, and funding will be awarded based on the vote percentages.
