Guest Conductor Courtney Lewis To Take the Baton At Jax Symphony This Week

29-year-old Courtney Lewis is the latest "young gun" to do a stint as guest conductor at the Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra.

This week, he'll conduct Rachmaninoff's Third Piano Concerto, which many consider to be the most difficult concerto in the piano repertoire.

The series of performances will also showcase the stunning virtuosity of Joyce Yang, the 2005 silver medalist at the 12th Van Cliburn International Piano Competition.

Lewis hails from Dublin, Ireland, and was recently named assistant conductor for the New York Philharmonic.

The symphony has been bringing in a series of young, talented conductors to be considered as replacements for the outgoing Fabio Mechetti.

"This form of music is universal, and it's exciting to be part of reaching out to a younger generation," says Lewis.
