RENT — the Tony and Pulitzer Prize winning musical story of falling in love, finding your voice and living for today — is being staged in Jacksonville. Loosely based on Puccini’s La Boheme, the story follows a year in the life of a group of impoverished young artists struggling to survive in New York City and dealing with the scourge of HIV and AIDS.
The musical has been a pop culture phenomenon since its 1996 Broadway debut, for which it won Tony's for Best Musical, Best Book of a Musical and Best Original Score, along with the Pulitzer Prize for drama.
RENT is on stage this weekend at Players by the Sea. Alex Rodriguez, director and choreographer joined Melissa Ross with a preview.
