This Weekend: St. Augustine Film Festival Promises 'Bold Moves'

Corazon Cinema and Cafe

Movie lovers will gather in St. Augustine this weekend for the annual St. Augustine Film Festival hosted by Flagler College and the Corazon Cinema and Café.

The three-day festival will screen more than 40 films, including two nominated for this year’s Oscars.

“Theeba,” a coming-of-age story set during World War 1, is up for Best Foreign Picture. “Chau: Beyond the Lines,” is the story of a disabled Vietnamese boy, and it’s nominated for Best Short Documentary.

To kick off the festival, 11 Flagler College student films will be screened Friday night. Flagler film Professor Patrick Barry says they’re the strongest group of filmmakers he’s seen in three years.

“They experiment. They try things that might, you know, scare other people, and they take risks.  I think there are some really bold moves,” he says.

The festival runs from from 5 p.m. Friday to 10 p.m. Sunday. Most films will be shown at the Corazon Cinema on Granada Street.

The St. Augustine Film Festival’s complete schedule and ticket information are available on its website
