One of the largest weekends in Jacksonville unfolds as we celebrate the return of THE PLAYERS Championship. The tournament began Tuesday with Military Appreciation Day and will be swinging through the weekend in Ponte Vedra Beach.
Between Trucks on 10, offering some of Jacksonville’s favorite foods, to The Oasis, featuring signature cocktails and a prime view of the No. 9 tee, there will be plenty for your taste buds to enjoy while on the course. But if you’re looking for things to do after the players have made their final putt of the day, here are a few beach-side options.
Following TPC on Friday, Shim Sham and Hoptinger in Jacksonville Beach will be hosting the Plaid Party. Starting at 8 p.m., guests dressed in their best plaid will enjoy complimentary beer, wine and cocktails as well as live music by REDNECK HUMMAS and DJ Nick FRESH. The event will go on until midnight and tickets are still available for $40. The Plaid Party is a supporter of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.

After the tournament on Saturday, TPC’s largest after party will be hosted at the Seawalk Pavilion. Beginning at 4 pm, guests ages 21 and older can enjoy complimentary beer for the first hour of the event. Louisiana’s Better than Ezra and Jacksonville’s own the Band Be Easy will play into the night along with other performers. Tickets are still available for $20 and partial proceeds will go to local charities First Coast Blessings in a Backpack and The Jim and Tabitha Furyk Foundation.
Events revolving around the tournament will be taking place all throughout the city, but golf-lovers aren’t the only ones that will be having fun this weekend.
Come together at Hemming Park this Friday. Prudence Farrow Bruns, author of "Dear Prudence – the Story Behind the Song" and the muse from the popular Beatles’ song, will be downtown sharing stories and talking about her memoir. The event is free to the public and begins at 7 pm.
St. Augustine Ballet presents "Peter Pan." This Saturday and Sunday take flight to Neverland with artistic director Luis Abella in the Lewis Auditorium at Flagler College, 14 Granada St. Tickets are available for $25 and show times are at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday.
Be a part of the global movement, Break Free 2016, and join the St. Augustine Environmental Youth Council at the March for Future Generations Rally on Sunday. A march across the Bridge of Lions will begin at 2:30 p.m. followed by a rally at the Lightner Museum, 75 King St., immediately afterwards. The goal of this event is to raise awareness for climate change.
Emmy Award winning comedian Amy Schumer will be at the Veterans Memorial Arena, 300 A. Phillip Randolph Blvd., this Sunday. Schumer also wrote and starred in "Trainwreck," the 2015 romantic comedy, as well as "Inside Amy Schumer." The show will begin at 7:30 p.m. and tickets are still available beginning at $38.
The 10th anniversary show of "Mande! The Evolution" will be held at 6:30 pm. Sunday in downtown Jacksonville. The celebration of African dance is presented by Nan Nkama and Save Africa Global, Inc. Tickets are available for $15 and the doors open at 5:30 p.m. at the Lavilla School of the Arts, 501 N. Davis St.
