Vigil for Police-Involved Shootings
There will be a local vigil held at the corner of North Liberty Steet and East 9th Street to remember the lives of Alton Sterling, Philando Castile and other victims of police-involved shootings. The Vigil is 6:30 p.m. Friday. The organization hosting the vigil is the Kemetic Empire. A large crowd is expected.
“Constellations” at the Cummer Museum
Jacksonville’s 5 & Dime will be performing the play “Constellations,” a romance about the role of destiny in relationships, at the Cummer Museum of Art and Garden. “Constellations” will premieres tonight at 7:30 and will play again 7:30 p.m. Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday. Tickets are $15 in advance online and $20 at the door.
On Saturday at Fort Caroline National Memorial, history will come back to life. There will be cannon firings, musket demonstrations and living history cooking classes. The cannon will fire at 10 a.m., 11 a.m., 1 p.m., 2 p.m. and 3 p.m. Admission is free.
Jacksonville Beach Summer Jazz Concert
The second half of Jacksonville Beach’s 15th annual Summer Jazz Series is Sunday. Nationally recognized jazz musicians will play from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Four 80 East with special guest Art Sherrod Jr. will be headlining. Bring your blankets and beach chairs to the Sea Walk Pavilion. Admission is free and open to the public.
For those trying to beat the heat, head to Sweet Pete’s to learn how to make chocolate pizza. You’ll learn how to temper chocolate from professional confectioners and get your creation packaged in a special pizza box. The class starts at 1 p.m. and costs $18.
