Sensory Elevation — Closing Event for “Through Our Eyes”
Sensory Elevation, curated by Lydia P. Stewart, celebrates another year with "Through Our Eyes." The longest running art exhibit in Jacksonville was created in 1993 with the goal of giving local black artists a place to display their work. As "Through Our Eyes" comes to an end, the Ritz Theatre and the Groove Suite host a night of live music, food, spoken word and more. The evening begins 7 p.m. Friday at the Ritz Theatre, 829 N. Davis Street. Tickets are $29. This event is for ages 21 and older.
The Festival of the Chariots, also known as RathaYatra, is a timeless festival, originating in the ancient city of JagannathaPuri in India. The festival is held in many major cities across the globe, including eight in Florida. The free event will be held 4 p.m. Saturday at the Seawalk Pavilion. Enjoy free vegetarian food, lifestyle vendors, yoga classes and much more.
Friends of Hemming Park invites you to its second annual Hemming Park Beer Festival, beginning at 6 p.m. Saturday. Attendees must be ages 21 and older and will have access to unlimited tastings of nearly 100 craft beers, imported beers and ciders. VIP tickets are also available and include free catering, specialty beer tastings and entry an hour early. General admission tickets are $35 and VIP tickets are $55 each. Prices are $40 at the door.
West Coast Swing Flashmob Class
Have you ever witnessed or seen a video of a flashmob dance and wondered "how can I be apart of this?" Well now's your chance. The third annual West Coast Swing Flashmob is approaching and The Dance Shack wants to let you in on the fun. Last year there were more than 170 participating cities and 5,000 dancers. Dance with the world on Sept. 3 (official location and time TBA). For those looking to learn the choreography, The Dance Shack, 3837 Southside Blvd. Ste. 1, is hosting classes twice a week on Saturdays and Sundays through Aug. 27. Saturday classes are held at 2 p.m. and Sunday classes are at 7 p.m.
