What Will Become Of The Regency Square Mall?

www.jacksonville.com

What should be done with the distressed Regency Mall property in Arlington?

With a 60% occupancy rate, and parts of the mall nearly a ghost town, there's no shortage of ideas.

As city officials and developers meet to discuss future options for the property, callers to First Coast Connect this morning had plenty of thoughts of their own.  Here are a few:

  • A medical center
  • An athletic facility for area kids, including basketball courts in the anchor store spaces
  • An IKEA!

The Regency Square Mall opened in 1967 and was at one time, one of the most profitable retail centers in the Southeast. Demographic changes have drawn consumers away from the mall in recent years, however.

You can hear today's full discussion of the Regency Square Mall's possible future on our WJCT On Demand page.
