One Spark To Expand To Berlin

One Spark

The One Spark festival, which began in 2013 in Jacksonville, will expand to Berlin, Germany in the fall of this year organizers announced Thursday night.

One Spark founders have been communicating with leaders in multiple international cities about replicating the crowdfunding festival. While plans are in motion to expand globally, the headquarters of One Spark will remain in Jacksonville, they said.

One Spark co-founder Elton Rivas said the international exposure will benefit the city.

"I think it helps put Jacksonville firmly on the map as a place where things are happening," he said. "We're excited to be a bit of a megaphone for that."

Creators who win juried prizes at Jacksonville's One Spark festival will get a plane ticket to Germany and guaranteed entry into the Berlin festival.

Organizers also announced that A&E's Project Startup will be in Jacksonville filming during this year's festival, which is scheduled for April 9-13, 2014.

Participants in One Spark compete for more than $300,000 in crowdfunding and  $3.25 million in potential capital investment.
