Electric car charging stations are coming to Jacksonville thanks to a federal grant.

A regional planning group is now accepting applications to determine where the stations will be located.

Applicants can be businesses, nonprofit organizations or governmental entities anywhere within the JEA service area. Those selected to host the electric vehicle chargers will receive a 220 volt station and free installation worth up to $7,500.

Overall, $300,000 in federal grant money is available through the North Florida Transportation Planning Organization. Applications will be scored on factors including visibility from public streets, plan for promotion of the parking space, and how much electric vehicle interest there is in the area. Applications will be taken through the end of March.
