Need groceries but don't have time to get to the store? By the beginning of November, you will be able to have them delivered to your door in less than an hour. Shipt, a membership-based delivery service, says it will launch here Oct. 28th. Plus, signing up when it launches means you can get the service for $49 a year instead of the regular $99 a year or $14 a month.
Consumers create a grocery list in a mobile app, then the app connects them to a nearby Shipt shopper, who fills the order at a local Publix. Deliveries are as prompt as an hour after the order is placed, depending on shopper availability.
In addition to the annual membership cost, here's what we found about fees and pricing on the Shipt website under frequently asked questions:
How are your prices determined?
It's super simple. The price you see in the Shipt app is the price you pay. Delivery is free for members on orders over $35. Smaller orders are welcome, but a $7 delivery fee will be added to help cover the costs of shopping and delivery. We never charge our members any additional fees.
Shipt prices will vary slightly from in store prices to help cover the costs of picking, packing and processing. Our customers can expect to pay about $5 more using Shipt than they would on a $35 order purchased in the store themselves. For example, a loaf of Wonderbread costs $2.29 in the store and $2.59 to have it delivered to your door using Shipt. For special requests, a markup of 15% will be applied. Our members are happy to pay the extra $.30 for the convenience and time saved.
Shipt is also looking to hire shoppers in the Jacksonville area. Shoppers typically make $15-25 per hour. They must be at least 18 years old and are required to have a current driver's license, pass a background check, and have reliable transportation and knowledge of produce. To apply, click here.
Shipt is currently available in Alabama, Arizona, Georgia, North Carolina, Tennessee and Texas. In Florida, it's in the Tampa, Orlando and Miami markets. It's also set to start in Sarasota at the end of October. Even though Shipt exclusively uses Publix in Florida, it is not affiliated with Publix. In other states, they also work with stores like Kroger and Fry's Food.
